Medicaid in Texas is a health plan

Call the program, then the member services number on your Medicaid card: most Texas Medicaid members are in a managed care health plan (STAR, STAR+PLUS, STAR Kids or STAR Health), and the program has to be in that plan's network. Which plans serve your county is on HHSC's managed care service area map; the plan's name is on your Medicaid card.

Some carriers sell both Medicaid and other plans, and the networks are separate: a program in network for an employer's Blue Cross or Aetna plan may not be in network for Blue Cross or Aetna Better Health Medicaid. Ask about your plan by name.
